2026 Protest Deadline is May 15
May 11, 2026
Property owners in Bexar County have until May 15 to protest their 2026 appraised value. Owners do not need to have received an appraisal notice in the mail in order to protest.
Fewer notices were mailed out this year due to a continued softening in the residential market and the district’s reappraisal plan provision which carried forward 2025 protested values into the 2026 tax year. Owners may check the values of their properties online using the BCAD property search on www.bcad.org whether or not they received a notice.
Chief Appraiser Rogelio Sandoval reminds property owners that they have the right to protest, even if they did not receive an appraisal notice. “If you believe your property value is incorrect, you can file a protest even without having received a notice,” said Sandoval. “Our goal is to have a conversation with property owners to make sure our records are accurate and help them gain a better understanding of the process.”
Protests can be submitted quickly and conveniently through the Online Services Portal at www.bcadonline.org or the Help Center at www.bcad.org. Protests may also be submitted in person during regular business hours or by mail if postmarked by May 15. Property owners are encouraged to file early to avoid delays and technical issues. Filing for exemptions and protests is free and handled directly through the district. For more information regarding BCAD services, contact (210) 242-2432 or visit the Help Center at www.bcad.org.
